First Aid

Bandage Materials: 

                  *1 inch white medical tape                                    *ace bandage
                  *2x2 or 3x3 gauze sponges (absorbent)            *non-stick pads
                  *bandage roll cotton or Kling rolled gauze         +/- Vetwrap         

Disinfectants:    

                  *3% hydrogen peroxide - useful to clean surface wounds as well as induce vomiting
                  *betadine solution - for deeper wounds - better than peroxide

Medications:  

                  *Aspirin - not Tylenol, not Ibuprofen (Advil)
                  *Neosporin - antibiotic ointment for abrasions, shallow cuts
                  *Benadryl 25 mg - generic ok - dogs >30 lbs take 2 tablets for bee stings
                  *Saline Solution (for contact lens wearers) - to flush eyes or wounds
                  *Styptic powder/baking soda - help to stop bleeding
                  *Pepto Bismol tablets - keep in truck for diarrhea

Instruments:

                  *scissors
                  *tweezers/thumb forceps - to remove ticks safely
                  *hemostats
                  +/- toenail trimmers

The items I have marked with an * are the items I feel are most important to have with you in the field, not just in the truck.  Some of the other items are useful to have with you in the truck since they can be useful by not needed as a
first line of first aid.
